Challem was born in Zoeterwoude (The Netherlands) in 1994 and started playing the piano at the age of 8.

As he is on a continuous journey to explore life, Challem’s music speaks to many due to its honesty; it feels as though his music can be read like a diary.

His emotions, voice, movement, and reactions are communicated through his piano. It’s an instinctive phase where thoughts reach out and lucidly guide him.

In the fall of 2021, he found himself in a small room with a piano. His thoughts were ready to be translated into music; this burst of inspiration lasted three months and resulted in a double EP (Aparigraha & Santosha) of 13 compositions, where he embraced the concept of non-greed and non-attachment. This was the beginning of a search for his inner voice.

“Now that my inner compass is bringing me to places far away in the search for my own home, the topic of family and childhood was prominent on my mind during the writing period. I made peace with everything that has been and still is. I am thankful and aware that I’ve been raised with a lot of privileges, thanks to my two loving parents and my brother”

The collection of four compositions on Challem’s newest EP titled ‘Far & well’ tells a story about his childhood on ‘Swan street’ in Holland.

A safe and loving place where he learned how to walk, talk and play the piano. Where his two caring mothers and older brother raised him and where he still returns too regularly. These compositions are a homage to his family and his past.

Starting with Mama – which you can see as two times ma – is obviously written with his parents in mind. Home is never far away. Even when life becomes challenging, he knows that the safety net is always there. The opening melody takes you on a small journey and will softly guide you home.

Continuing with Aves – referring to the family of the swan – represents the street where he grew up with all the memories and feelings he has of that particular place. This piece invites you to explore and challenge your inner self, knowing that you can always come back home at the end of the day.

The Great is about his brother, who plays a big role in his life. Who doesn’t need a great somebody to look up to? It doesn’t matter what happens in Challem’s life, his brother has always provided him with a listening ear. Now he returns the favour by sharing this piece with him and everyone who is willing to hear.

The fourth and final piece is called All the best. Capturing the past and preparing for the future in sound, this composition represents the idea that nothing has to change and all is well. Being at peace with his childhood is the result of writing this intimate EP.
